Weekly and fortnightly timesheet calculator
A timesheet for weekly and fortnightly pay
This version of the calculator uses the timesheet conventions common in the UK and Australia: the week runs Monday to Sunday, times are in 24-hour format, you can switch to a fortnight, and there is no automatic overtime premium. You enter start and finish times, and the calculator adds up the hours and multiplies by your hourly rate.
Worked example: a 38-hour week
You work 08:30 to 17:00 Monday to Thursday and 08:30 to 15:00 on Friday, with an unpaid 30-minute break each day, at a rate of 28.50 an hour.
| Day | Start–finish | Break | Hours |
|---|---|---|---|
| Monday to Thursday (each) | 08:30–17:00 | 30 min | 8:00 |
| Friday | 08:30–15:00 | 30 min | 6:00 |
| Week total | 38:00 (38.00) | ||
| Pay at 28.50/hour | 38 × 28.50 | 1083.00 |
Over a fortnight of two such weeks you would have 76:00 hours. The calculator shows each week's total and the fortnight's total.
The formula
Day hours = finish − start − unpaid break
Week hours = sum of Monday to Sunday
Pay = total hours × hourly rate
Rules worth knowing
UK: GOV.UK says employers do not have to pay workers for overtime, but your average pay for all the hours you work must not fall below the National Minimum Wage, and your contract sets any overtime rate. Most workers cannot be made to work more than 48 hours a week on average, normally averaged over 17 weeks, unless they opt out. Workers under 18 are limited to 8 hours a day and 40 a week. See Overtime: your rights and Maximum weekly working hours.
Australia: overtime, penalty rates and allowances usually depend on your Modern Award, enterprise agreement or contract, and they can depend on the day and time worked. This page does not calculate them. Check your award on the Fair Work Ombudsman website, then use the overtime calculator with custom thresholds if you know your rates.
Canada (Ontario): under the Employment Standards Act, overtime is generally owed after 44 hours in a work week at 1.5 times the regular rate. The overtime calculator can do that with a custom weekly threshold of 44.
Edge cases
- Night shifts: 22:00 to 06:00 is 8:00 hours and counts on the day the shift started.
- Split shifts: add up to 6 start/finish pairs per day.
- Annual leave and public holidays: set the day type and enter the paid hours.
- Paid breaks: do not enter them as breaks; only unpaid time is subtracted.

Frequently asked questions
How do I work out my weekly hours on a timesheet?
For each day, take the finish time minus the start time, then subtract unpaid breaks. Add the days. 08:30 to 17:00 with a 30-minute break is 8 hours; four of those plus 08:30 to 15:00 with a 30-minute break is 38 hours.
Can I see a fortnight?
Yes. Press “Fortnight” above the timesheet to show 14 days, with a total for each week and for the fortnight.
Why does this page not add overtime?
In the UK there is no legal right to extra pay for overtime; your contract sets it. In Australia, overtime and penalty rates usually come from your award or agreement. So this page adds up hours and pay at one rate. Use the overtime calculator if your contract pays a premium.
How do I record annual leave or sick leave?
Change the day type to PTO (paid leave such as annual leave), Holiday (public holiday) or Sick, and enter the paid hours. They are added to paid hours, not worked hours.
Does it use the 24-hour clock?
Yes. This page shows 24-hour times and starts the week on Monday. Your settings on other pages are not changed.
Is the timesheet saved?
Yes, in this browser only. It uses the same saved days as the other calculators on this site, so you can view the month or the year later.
Can I print my timesheet?
Yes. Print gives a clean sheet with your name, the period, each day, the totals and signature lines. Choose “Save as PDF” in the print dialog for a PDF.
