Editorial policy
CycleRest publishes sleep calculators and general information about sleep. Because sleep is a health topic, we hold every page to the rules below. This page explains what we do, and what we don’t.
No medical reviewer
CycleRest does not currently have a medical reviewer. Our pages are written by the CycleRest team, who are not doctors, and are not reviewed by a doctor, sleep specialist or other clinician. We don’t claim otherwise anywhere on the site, and we will not show a “medically reviewed” label unless a real, credentialed reviewer has actually reviewed the page. Our content is general information, not medical advice: read the medical disclaimer.
Where our information comes from
Every factual health claim on the site links to an authoritative source, shown as a numbered link next to the claim and listed with its access date at the bottom of the page. We use:
- U.S. public health bodies: CDC, the National Institutes of Health (NHLBI and NINDS) and the FDA.
- Expert consensus statements from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM), the Sleep Research Society and the National Sleep Foundation.
- The NHS (UK) for when to seek help.
- Peer-reviewed research and reviews indexed in PubMed, cited by title, journal and year.
- The Sleep Foundation for practical guidance (nap length, time to fall asleep, cycle length), where its figures are stated clearly.
Publishers cited on the site today: CDC, AASM, AASM / SRS, National Sleep Foundation, NHLBI (NIH), NINDS (NIH), Sleep Foundation, U.S. FDA, NHS, plus the journal articles listed on each page.
How we check figures
- Every number on the site (sleep needs by age, cycle lengths, nap lengths, caffeine amounts, caffeine half-life and cutoff times) is checked against the original source before publishing.
- Each figure, the exact wording in the source, the source address and the date we checked it are kept in one data file. The pages and calculators read their figures from that file, so a correction is made once and appears everywhere.
- Where respected sources disagree (for example, the age bands for babies and teenagers), we show which source each figure comes from and say how they differ, rather than picking one silently.
- We don’t publish statistics we can’t trace to a source, and we don’t invent testimonials, reviews, experts or credentials.
“Last reviewed” dates
Each page shows a “Last reviewed” date. It is the date on which we last opened every source cited on that page and checked our figures against it. It does not mean a clinician reviewed the page. Pages were last reviewed on October 21, 2026. We aim to re-check sources at least every 12 months, and sooner if a cited organisation updates its guidance.
What we won’t do
- Diagnose conditions, suggest treatments or give doses. For melatonin or any sleep medicine, we say: ask your doctor or pharmacist.
- Promise that a calculator will fix your sleep. The calculators give estimates based on average cycles, and we say how accurate they are on every calculator.
- Let advertising influence content. If ads are added in future, they will be clearly labelled, kept away from calculator results, and advertisers will have no say over what we write.
Calculators
The calculations are simple arithmetic, published on each page (for example, bedtime = wake-up time − time to fall asleep − 90 minutes per cycle). They are covered by automated tests, including the bedtimes shown on our wake-up-time pages.
Corrections
If you think something is wrong or out of date, please tell us via the contact page with the page address and the source you’re relying on. We check every report against the sources and correct errors promptly, updating the “Last reviewed” date.
